Kenya officially known as the Republic of Kenya, is situated in East Africa close to equator. With the Indian Ocean to its south-east, it is bordered by Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia. The country is named after Mount Kenya, a significant landmark and second among Africa's highest mountain peaks. Its capital and largest city is Nairobi. Kenya has a varied climate ranging from warm and humid along the coastlines of Indian Ocean to cool climate I Nairobi and followed by snow-capped peaks as and when approaching Mount Kenya.

Kenya enfolds inside an angelic and bewitching nature. Mountains and deserts, colourful tribal culture, beaches and coral reefs, are some of Africa's best wildlife attractions.

The people, too, represent a wide cross-section of contemporary Africa as well as, and traditional tribes and urban families practicing ancient customs.

Although the official languages are Swahili and English, Kenya is a multi-lingual country.

The system of Education in Kenya is very dynamic. Basic formal education starts at age six years and lasts 12 years comprising eight years in primary school and four years in high school or secondary school. Primary school is free in public schools those who complete high school can join a polytechnic or other technical college and study for three years or proceed directly to the university and study for four years.

Public universities in Kenya are highly commercialised institutions and only a small section of qualified high school graduates are admitted on limited government-sponsorship into programmes of their choice. Gender and regional imbalances have posed hindrances to higher education in Kenya as in other African countries. The proportion of girls' enrolment declines as they move up the educational ladder.

Education in Kenya in spite of coming out of the traditional way of teaching still has to undergo a lot of changes in this sector.
