Burundi which is officially known as the Republic of Burundi, is a country located in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Its capital is Bujumbura. French is the official language of the country. Apart from that Kirundi language is also widely spoken all over. Once known as Burundi, the Kingdom of Burundi emerged on the eastern foothills in the late 17th century.

The future of Burundi is somewhat bleak, as less than half of all children attend school, and basic foods and medicines are in short supply. With a high population density and very limited natural resources, most of the population remains economically curbed. Education in Burundi is a matter of prime concern though the Education Ministry is providing full support for educating the masses. The literacy rate of the country is very measly with only 65% of the total population. Primary education is compulsory for children aged between 7 to 14 years and is provided free of cost.

The languages of instruction in Burundi schools are Kirundi and French. Recently there has been a considerable hike in the pupil teacher ratio of Burundi schools and colleges. The level of education in Burundi is improving with each passing day and the children of Burundi are reaping a positive outcome of this.

In Burundi, 80% of the population live in poverty, 53% of all Burundi children suffering from miniature growth as a result of a poor or scarce diet. The quality of education in Burundi is poor due to a lack of qualified teachers and adequate supplies. In spite of the continuous growth shown in the education sector, the future of students is not very bright and is uncertain. Poor infrastructure and poor level of healthcare pose as major problems in the progress of the country. Civil wars in the country proved to be fatal and slurped the economic stability. As a booming IT and Financial hub, Bangalore is considered quite expensive city in India. Nevertheless students live in reasonably cheap University hostels and youth hostels.
